Amanda Parer

Amanda Parer is an emerging artist from Tasmania where her work is gaining recognition from both public and private collectors. She was selected three times for the Blake Prize (2009, 2010 & 2011), as well as a 2008, 2012 & 2013 Glover Prize Finalist. Parer comes from an artistic family - she is the great grand niece of Damien Parer, who won the first Oscar for his documentary of the battle of Kokoda, and niece to David Parer, producer of wildlife documentaries.

Parer's edgy and startling oil paintings explore the natural world, its fragility, and feature assorted creatures 'great and small' and often feral or endangered species. Her finely crafted, traditional technique enhances the environmental message when viewing one of Parer's creatures inhabiting a beautifully haunting landscape.

The artist has been invited to show work at the Asia Contemporary Art Show in Hong Kong in 2014; being launched in  conjunction with Art Basel Hong Kong.
