Poh Ling Yeow

Poh Ling Yeow's recent works explore the mythical girl/woman subject and her menagerie of animals. Despite her obvious physical differences this wise young woman finds solace and kinship in these families. Poh's paintings are exquisitely crafted into romantic character studies inhabiting seductively ephemeral worlds.

Born in Malaysia in 1973, Poh spent the first nine years of her life in Kuala Lumpur. Her family later migrated to South Australia where she now lives and works.

After completing a Bachelor of Design at the University of South Australia, Yeow freelanced as a graphic designer and illustrator. As a fifth-generation Chinese Malaysian Poh’s paintings persistently attempt to reconcile her Asian heritage with her Western identity. Her sometimes whimsical use of Chinese iconography acknowledges the fragmentation of her cultural experience. Following her success as runner up on Channel 10's, hugely successful ‘Masterchef' TV series in 2009, Poh now has her own cooking show ‘Poh’s Kitchen’ on ABC TV and authored her first cookbook, ‘My Cooking Adventures’ with Harper Collins, to be released at the end of the month.

Poh has been painting full-time since the beginning of 2002 and has successfully exhibited with Libby Edwards Galleries, in Melbourne and Sydney, since 2006.
