"My paintings hark back to a time that lies deep in my psyche. A time where the space around me was entirely ephemeral, flexing, dancing, shimmering. A distant horizon, sea and sky, a world devoid of distracting images. I take this vision and immerse myself in the landscape I now live; South Bruny Island, a place of remote and rugged beauty off the Southern Tasmanian coast."
GLOVER PRIZE FINALIST 2004, 2005, 2008,2009
"It is a dramatic place where the ever-changing patterns of weather and light emphasize the transience and unpredictability of nature...These paintings are about a landscape that I live in and feel a part of. The southern coast of Tasmania is a wild place, the weather, the sheer cliff islands, and the unknown. This is an ancient place with so little human influence..."
My painting intentions are simple; to create a sense of place that reflects both my physical and emotional involvement. The process however is endlessly confronting. I paint, posed between my knowledge of the outside world, and my internal ponderings of an imagined one. Both reinvigorate each other, stimulating new painted interpretations and new possibilities of seeing.
My focus emphasizes the powerful aspects of nature, towering cliffs, transient cloud forms, a world in perpetual motion. A distant horizon merging sea and sky invites feelings of vastness. Often the tone I want to capture comes so fleetingly and inexplicably to me. As I work the painting shifts, waves come and go, clouds form and dissolve until some illusory connection is made, and the painting feels whole, tenuously complete. Now is my opportunity to share this work with you. “

Boulter's intimate connection to the rugged terrain of Tasmania’s Bruny Island where she lives with her young family emanates from the exquisitely emotive landscapes. Boulter spent her childhood navigating the oceans with her Canadian seafarer father and is now married to a seafarer.
