Anthony Morrison
Sydney-born, Queensland-based artist Anthony Morrison is a conceptual abstract artist with an extensive background in creative design.

Morrison's works resonate with his love of textures, multi-dimensional perspectives and unpredictable, almost accidental, organic forms.

Using his knowledge of classical art principles and colour-theory, he continues to evolve and develop his own, technique of mixed media application. Working with acrylics, oils, lacquers, translucent glazes, colour varnishes and sprays, he incorporates a wide variety of multiple-layering techniques and application styles.

“I want people who see my art to enjoy endless views, so that each time they look they see something or feel something different from the work,” Anthony says.

“The multi-layering and the perceivable and indeterminable dimensional qualities that I try to achieve in my works are almost like a reflection of personality: some parts of us are hidden and some are exposed. And sometimes you have to look hard to see parts that you have missed or forgotten – even within yourself.”

Anthony holds a B.A. in Visual Communication from the Sydney College of the Arts (1986) and has worked in various creative design fields throughout his life, including graphic, architectural and landscape design.

He first began painting in his teenage years, initially in a classic realist style using oils, until he realised he was neither fulfilled nor creating the sort of emotive art he felt he was capable of - and stopped painting altogether for several years.

Four years ago, he realised he yearned to paint again and immediately began exploring and pushing the boundaries of acrylic and mixed media, painting in his textural, layered abstract style.

Anthony’s intellectual motivation is to portray the inherent beauty and harmony that exists between the inter-relationship of colour, composition and form. He works intuitively, believing in the principle of painting by guidance and inspiration: expressing and capturing the beauty of an emotion by working spontaneously, methodically and yet vigorously to create pieces of unique beauty.
